    Quick answer

Volleyball uses rally scoring: every rally gives a point to one team. Sets go to 25 (the deciding set usually to 15) and must be won by 2 points. The team that wins the rally serves next; if it was receiving, it rotates first. Tap a team's side of the board to give it a point.

    How volleyball scoring works

    • Rally scoring. Every rally gives a point to one team, whoever served.
    • Serving. The rally winner serves next. If your team was receiving and won (a side-out), it rotates one spot clockwise, and the next player in the serving order serves.
    • Sets. A set goes to 25 points, and you must win by 2: 25-23 ends the set, 25-24 does not.
    • Deciding set. In a best of 3 the third set usually goes to 15; in a best of 5 the fifth set does. Still win by 2. You can change both in “New match”.
    • Match. Best of 5 (first to 3 sets) is common in high school; best of 3 (first to 2) is common in club tournaments. Leagues can change this, so the board lets you set the format, the points and the timeouts.

How to use this volleyball score board

    1. Start a match: tap “New match / settings”. Enter team names, choose best of 3 or 5, points per set, timeouts and your rule set.
    2. Score: tap a team’s side to add a point. The serve indicator moves to the rally winner.
    3. Timeouts: tap Timeout under a team. Dots show how many are used.
    4. Mistake? Tap Undo (or press U). Undo works all the way back to the first point, even after a refresh.
    5. Change ends: Swap sides flips the board.
    6. TV mode: huge numbers only, for a laptop on a TV or a tablet on the scorer’s table.
    7. Score log: every point, timeout and sub is listed with the score; export it as a PDF.

Keyboard shortcuts: A = point to the left team, L = point to the right team, U = undo, T then A or L = timeout.

Volleyball score keeper with rotation tracking (match mode)

Load your lineup and the board becomes a bench assistant:

    • Rotation and server. It shows your current rotation and who serves, and after a side-out it already knows the next server. That prevents wrong-server faults.
    • Libero. It shows who the libero is in for and reminds you when she is in zone 5 and about to rotate to the front row.
    • Subs. It counts substitutions against your rule set’s limit, warns two subs before it, and blocks at the limit with a “My league allows more” button. A player can only re-enter her own lineup spot. See substitution rules.

To start match mode, build your team in the volleyball rotation generator and press Match mode, or pick a saved team in “New match / settings”.

    Youth and rec options

Many youth leagues limit serves in a row. Set a serve limit of 3, 4, 5 or 6 and choose what happens next: the team rotates to its next server, or the serve goes to the other team. Leagues that bring a bench player in on every rotation can turn on “sub through rotation”. These are league rules, so check yours.

Volleyball scoreboard app or score sheet?

This board runs in any browser: no app store, no account, and no ads on the board itself or in TV mode. Add it to your home screen and it opens like an app. For an official record, keep a paper volleyball score sheet as well, or export the score log PDF after the match.

    Frequently asked questions

    How do you score volleyball?

Every rally ends with a point for one team; that is rally scoring. The team that wins the rally also serves next. A set ends when a team reaches 25 points with a lead of at least 2, so 26-24 or 27-25 can happen. The deciding set (set 3 or set 5) usually goes to 15, still win by 2; some tournaments use other limits, so check yours.

How do you keep score in volleyball?

Track three things: the points in the current set, the sets each team has won, and which team is serving. After each rally, give the point to the winner and give it the serve. If the winner was receiving, it rotates before serving. A scoreboard or a score sheet keeps all three for you.

How do you work a volleyball scoreboard?

On this board, tap the left or right half to give that team a point; the serve arrow moves automatically. Use Timeout to record a timeout, Undo to fix a mistake, and Swap sides when teams change ends. TV mode shows huge numbers for a screen or tablet facing the crowd. Keyboard: A, L, U and T.

How do you read a volleyball scoreboard?

The big numbers are the points in the current set. The smaller number next to each team is the sets it has won. A ball icon or arrow shows which team is serving. Dots under the score show timeouts used. When a set ends, the points reset to 0 and the winning team's set count goes up by one.

Does the scoreboard work without internet?

Yes. After your first visit the site is saved on your device, so the scoreboard works in a gym with no wifi. The match is saved after every point, so closing the browser or a dead battery does not lose the score. It also asks your phone to keep the screen on while a match is running.

Can the scoreboard track rotations and subs?

Yes, in match mode. Build your lineup in the rotation generator and press Match mode, or load a saved team in "New match / settings". The board then shows the current rotation, who serves next, where the libero is, and how many subs you have left, with a warning two subs before your limit.
